Honorary Grand Marshal 2025 Hazel Kellogg

Born December 7, 1932 in Omaha, Nebraska, Hazel Kellogg is the proud mother of eight biological children (Ray, Mitchell, Timothy, Ramona, Terri, Derrick, Joe, and Vickey Franklin), along with five adopted children (Tasha, Tiffany, Raymond, Giovanni, and Tracy).

She is the grandmother of 32, great-grandmother of 41, and great-great-grandmother to 20 — a true matriarch of love and legacy!

Growing up, Hazel attended Bethel AME Church. She later became an active member of Second Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and served faithfully in the kitchen. A proud graduate of Central High School, she was one of the first African American cheerleaders in her time — an early example of her fearless trailblazing spirit.

Hazel excelled in office work, retail, and especially child care. In the early 1980s, she became a foster parent and opened her own in-home child care center. Her nurturing spirit touched dozens of children’s lives. In 2000, she was honored as Foster Care Provider of the Year by the Department of Health and Human Services.

Community Legacy with the Native Omahans Club

Hazel became affiliated with the Native Omahans Club during its golden era in the 1970s. She enjoyed traveling, socializing, and building meaningful relationships through the club. As her role in the organization grew, she became deeply involved in planning community events like the Native Omaha Day Parade and the Stone Soul Picnic.

In the early 2000s, Hazel proudly served as President of the Native Omahans Club , where she welcomed new members and brought fresh energy and ideas. She loved organizing the annual charter trips and engagement opportunities for the Omaha community and beyond.

The mission of the Native Omahans Club is to reconnect family and friends — whether they live in Omaha or have moved away. It’s about honoring the past, embracing the future, and coming together to build something even greater for the generations to come.

Still Leading with Love

Now in her early 90s, Hazel Kellogg continues to live a life rooted in family, faith, and community. She remains an inspiration, committed to the purpose and heart of the Native Omahans Club — bringing people together to celebrate the legacy and future of Omaha.
